What are the rules for repeating courses?

If the initial grade was a "D" or an "E", undergraduate students may repeat a course once. Classes completed with grades of A, B, or C cannot be repeated. If a student has taken the course twice at ASU and received grades of "D" or "E", the student must request permission to repeat the course a third time by filing a petition to the standards committee of the college/program in which they are enrolled.

If the course is at the 100 or 200 levels, only the best grade is used in computing the GPA. However, to be eligible for the deletion of “D” or “E” grades from calculations of the GPA, the course must be repeated at ASU. For courses at the 300 or 400 level, both grades will count towards the GPA. Credit is only given one time per course.
